IS THERE AN APPLCATION FEE FOR THE SBBC GRANT?

Yes. Starting in November, there will be a $6.97 administrative fee that must be submitted each time you apply. Applications submitted without the fee will be forfeited.

WHY IS THERE AN APPLICATION FEE?

We are not a non-profit organization, and we don’t receive any federal or foundation subsidies for our grants. The application fee makes the grant and operation of this site. We only charge the application fee. We don’t charge any additional fees.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I AM SELECTED?

If chosen, you will receive a $250 grant. Notification will be sent via email, and you will have five days to claim your grant and submit a photo for featured recognition. Failure to do so within this period will result in the selection of another recipient. Grants will be disbursed to whom you listed on your application. You also will able be included in our $500 year-end grant.

HOW ARE GRANT WINNERS SELECTED?

Since our application requires minimal information, our monthly grant awardees are chosen randomly using a trusted online picker to ensure a fair and unbiased random selection. However, the selection process for the year-end grants operates differently.

HOW DOES THE YEAR-END GRANT WORK?

All recipients for the current calendar year will be entered into a drawing for a $500 year-end grant. PLEASE NOTE THE YEAR-END GRANT FOR OUR INAUGURAL YEAR (2024) IS $250. Requirements will vary annually. One awardee will be selected by the grant team, comprising the owner (click here to read bio) and three industry professionals who rotate each cycle. Full bios of the industry professionals will be published on the website prior to the year-end grant selection.

WHEN IS THE OPEN PERIOD?

The application is open the 1st and closes on the 25th of every month. Recipients are selected and notified by the 30th of every month.

WHAT CAN THE GRANT BE USED FOR?

  • Industry schools, programs or advanced classes- award can be used to help support the tuition for industry schools, or advanced industry education. Award will be paid directly to educational institution or business. If currently enrolled, recipient must be in good standing.

  • Exam fees- award can be used to pay industry exam fees. Award will be paid directly to exam center. If there is a remaining balance, remaining award can be used towards industry supplies. Remaining award will be paid directly to supplier.

  • License renewal - award can be used to pay license renewal. Award will be paid directly to the state. If there is a remaining balance, award can be used towards industry supplies. Remaining award will be paid directly to supplier.

  • Startups- award can be used to help with business startups. Business must be registered and have an EIN number, and in good standing. Award will be paid directly to your registered business.

  • Business bill- award can be used to help with an existing business bill. Business must be registered, have an EIN, and in good standing. Award will be paid directly to the bill company.

  • Supplies- Award can be used towards beauty, or barber supplies. Award will be paid directly to supplier.

CAN I APPLY EVERY MONTH?

Yes, if you are a non-recipient. Recipients can apply again two months after receiving their award.

WILL THE GRANT AMOUNT INCREASE?

Yes. Our micro grant will increase as we grow.

HOW DOES THE GIVE-A-WAY WORK?

We'll regularly post exciting giveaways, so be sure to check back frequently to claim yours. Please note that only one giveaway item can be received per giveaway period. Requirements to receive the giveaway will vary for each period.

  • “Industry” is defined as cosmetology, barbering, makeup, henna art, locticians, braiding, permanent make up, and esthetics.

  • “Industry education” is defined as any institution or business that teaches cosmetology, barbering, makeup, henna art, locs, braiding, permanent make up, or esthetics.

  • “Business education” is defined as any business, finance, or marketing course/class delivered by an accredited or reputable provider. (selected institutions/business and programs will be reviewed)

  • “Supplier” is defined as a business that sells industry materials and supplies. (Think of your beauty supply store)
